Alternative way using RDP to edit the miner confs file(s) /adding minerfarm API Keys / and starting your miner, rather then using Pimp Terminal Command Line or SSH

  • Support

    Hello fellow members,

I remember when I first started using Pimp OS 6+ months ago, coming from Windows, I wasn't too confident in using Pimp Terminal Command Line Prompt to edit my miner conf file(s).

So for me I found a nifty "cheat" way of bypassing Pimp Terminal, and using "Leaf pad" (like notepad on Windows) to edit the conf files, which may help noobies or users who are more use to the Windows "gui interface" approach, please see guide below :-

    Step 1 - Opening "/opt" folder

Firstly, don't connect using ssh, use rdp (for Mac OS I use the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the App store) or keyboard, mouse and monitor if already hooked up to your rig.

Once connected to the rig, at the bottom left hand side of the screen, bit like Windows your'll have the start icon (don't click on the start icon), then to the right of the start icon you'll see a white/blue folder icon, if you hover over it, text will appear with the name of the folder icon called "File ManagerPCManFM". Left click the folder icon to open up the following window.

    0_1515347163422_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.44.51.png

In the white address bar at the top where it says "/root" like this,

    0_1515347346183_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.48.48.png

delete just "root" and replace it with "opt" so it reads "/opt"

    0_1515347434575_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.50.12.png

Then hit the "enter" button on the keyboard, and this screen will appear.

    0_1515347532774_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.51.50.png

As per screenshot above double click the "confs" folder.

    0_1515347768430_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.55.56.png

You should then see the contents as per above image of the confs folder you just opened. These are all the miner conf files you can now edit without having to use the pimp terminal, and means you can use control + cut /copy / and paste!

Step 2 - Editing the "nvidia.ccminer.lbry.pcfg" conf file

For this guide I will be using https://suprnova.cc mining pool to mine ETN, with ccminer. Thus if you look for the "nvidia.ccminer.lbry.pcfg" file and double click it (which automatically uses "Leaf pad" text editor like "notepad" in Windows).

    0_1515347885861_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 17.57.56.png

Hear is where you can now edit the file, using control + cut /copy / and paste mentioned above - It also makes backing up the conf files a lot easier and quicker for you.

So to save time I have already editing my conf file so that I can show it to you in the below screen shot - You can use this as your template to get you mining ETN on suprnova pool quickly - Just change the wallet address to your wallet address!

    0_1515348589822_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.09.33.png

Essentially all you need to do is edit the following lines to get you started.

    1. POOL1= "Mining Pool address, like, suprnova, nanopool, luckpool, and minergate, etc"
    2. USER="Wallet Address, like ZEN, ETH, etc"
    3. PASS1="x" mostly the password will always be "x"
    4. ALGO1="for me it's cryptonight, but if you look at https://whattomine.com/ it will tell you for the coin you choose the algorithm to input.
    5. The "FLAGS=" might be at the end of the text file, but for me I moved it as per image above to make life easier for me, when mining different coins, saves time!

So in the"FLAGS=" I've set max temperature to 77 degrees c, for my nvidias 1070's (see above image), but you can also use many other options hear like intensity of all cards or each card - have a look at the https://forum.getpimp.org/ - lots of information, and on the Internet.

Ok so once you've made the changes to the conf file it's time to save the changes, by going to file then save, then you can close the file down, and all windows, and go back to the desktop.

Step 3 - Adding ccminer to Minerfarm Agent Console

From the desktop you'll need to add the ccminer and the config file you just edited. Very simple to do. Two ways depending if the icon is shown on your desktop, should be. First is to double click the "Minerfarm Agent Console" desktop icon.

    0_1515349109671_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.18.16.png

If it's not shown, then double click "Pimp Terminal" desktop icon and enter "minerfarm" then the "enter" button on keyboard,

    0_1515349163700_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.19.08.png

and you should now see the "Minerfarm Agent Console".

    0_1515349266510_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.20.48.png

To add a new miner, press the "a" key to "add new miner".

    0_1515349335551_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.22.04.png

You can leave "Port" as 4028, then use the "tab" key on keyboard to move from "Port" to "Profile", then use keyboard up and down arrows to select the profile you require, in this guide select "(nvid) ccminer: lbry", like so.

    0_1515349521366_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.25.12.png

Hit the "enter" button on keyboard, then the "tab" key on your keyboard to the navigate to the "[save]" button below hit the "enter" button on keyboard.

    0_1515349640015_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.27.00.png

You get the above message hit "< ok >", then tab to "[Exit]" button, and hit the "enter" button on your keyboard, this will then add the miner and conf file to Minerfarm Agent Console.

So the "Minerfarm Agent Console" screen should now look like this.

    0_1515349797270_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.29.44.png

Step 4 - Copy and Paste "Short" and "Long" API Keys to view your rig(s) on miner.farm website.

Before you start mining though make sure in the minerfarm agent console you hit the "c" key on the keyboard (c stands for configure settings), in order to add the Short and Long API keys, so that you can use miner.farm to monitor your rigs, if you want to - If you just want to test / start mining, skip to "Step 5".

    0_1515350142814_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.35.18.png

You just need to enter agent name (make it unique for each rig if you desire), and then the "Short" and "Long" api keys which will be the same for each rig.

You can find these keys by logging into https://miner.farm/whoareyou

In the Account area screen, look at the right hand side of the screen at look for the "API Keys" section.

Copy and Paste the "Short key" and "Long key" for me I use my email gmail account, to create a new message, paste the keys in, send the message to my gmail account (i.e. to myself), and then log into my gmail account from my rig, open the new message up and copy and paste the keys into the Minerfarm Agent Console" / "configure settings" / "Short API Key" / and "Long API Key" fields, like so.

    0_1515350705302_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.44.52.png

    Then save, and exit.

    Step 5 - Start Mining!

If you have exited the "Minerfarm Agent Console", opening it up again, so it looks like this.

    0_1515351253982_Screen Shot 2018-01-07 at 18.53.55.png

Then the 'magic' words every miner wants to hear, to start mining just press the "s" key on the keyboard (s stands for start) and if all works should look like this.

Remember it may take a few minutes for the "Total farm hashrate" to update.
