Too many HW errors and low hashrate

  • I have 6 GPUs (currently testing rig with only one GPU)

this VGA has dual BIOS, one for mining and one for gaming but I have big trouble to distinguish them, these are BIOS specs:

If I try to mine with Bios1 I'm getting hashrate per VGA not more than 17Mh/s, despite the fact that this card can go over 24Mh/s AFAIK, with modded BIOS maybe even ~30Mh/s,
and also I'm getting tons of HW errors in compare to Accepts, on the other hand if I try to mine with Bios2 hashrate is 0 and after few seconds, every single time, gpu will become sick with lot of these errors in dmesg log

With all 6 GPUs miner farm graph looks like this:

I really need your help guys! :(

    Thanks

Have you tried 2.4.1 release yet? It has many AMD improvements.

  • hm, no I have not, can I upgrade directly from the OS or I have to reimage the whole ssd?

  • Staff

You will need to reimage the SSD. There are tools on the 2.4.1 release to help us do some BIOS checking as well.

  • Nice, I'll do it ASAP!

One more question, should I be worried about the license key, just to mention that I haven't made any hw changes since first time I added the license key?

  • Staff

No worries about the key. Just use the same one on the updated rig.

  • Ok I have successfully installed PiMP 2.4.1 and situation regarding hashrate is a much much better now (24-27Mh/s per GPU), also second BIOS is working now, but still I have very bad Accepts/HW errors ratio and I would like to know, if you can explain it to me, what exactly these errors are referring to and what kind of effect they have or can have on overall mining process, when should I start worrying?

    Test with 2 GPUs

GPU	Status	Hashrate Accept/Reject	HW	Temp Fan I Core	Memory Power
    0	Alive	25390.00 Kh/s	4 / 0 (0.000%)	15	65C	1640 (49%)	2048	1425 Mhz	2025 Mhz	101.15 W
    1	Alive	28240.00 Kh/s	5 / 0 (0.000%)	14	65C	1643 (49%)	2048	1425 Mhz	2025 Mhz	104.11 W

They are either invalid (bad hash of good data) or stale (good hash of bad data)

A good hash of bad data can be when a block is found any share you are working on or submitting is no longer worth anything. They are stale.

And a bad hash of good data can be If you push a GPU too hard it will make mathematical errors producing invalid hashes.

Finding the magic sweet spots for particular algorithms, types of cards, and bios settings is what rig tuning is all about.

  • Anyone has any suggestion for me?

    I'm using 1102 profile => https://forum.getpimp.org/topic/10/setting-up-miner-profiles
    with basically default configuration

default core and memory clocks values for my VGA (tried with default values and OC values)

    Using Bios2 now

@milosbuncic Any luck on your issue? If you solved it, please post what you did to fix it so that other Pimps who might be suffering the same problems can learn from what you did. Thank you.
