AMD 470 RX - 8 detected but only 6 mine, driver error?

  • Hi PiMP community-

I'm new to the PiMPOS world, but not new to mining and unfortunately I'm having trouble getting a 8-board GPU AMD RX 470 rig working with Pimp. It detects and works fine under Windows, but no luck under PimpOS. The OS appears to see 8 boards, but the driver only 6, and the software therefore only mines with 6.
When I do a gputool --status I get the following:

PIMP GPU Tool v20171107 GPUs type: AMD
NOTE: At least one miner appears to be running.

I've checked the gpu-config.json file to no avail. Is there something simple I am missing?

    Thank you!

Hello Dave! This output shows that the driver sees all 8 cards. However, we recommend that you check your BIOS settings again https://forum.getpimp.org/topic/9/setting-up-motherboards-for-mining
And also for more accurate diagnosis, provide the following information: the result of the helpme command (link at the bottom), the log of your miner with pimp --debug and... Check your risers.

  • Thanks for the quick reply! I did go through the BIOS settings and couldn't find anything that wasn't set right. I swapped the internal GPU from enabled to disabled and back with no change.

Here is the link from the HelpMe command:
    https://helpme.getpimp.org/mn01xg2rigx00001-1513033849.html

The debug command shows the following:
    [/root]:# pimp --debug
    Available miner IDs:
    ID 2 localhost:4029 ethdcrminer64 claymore.dual.pcfg
    Usage:
    pimp --debug [Miner ID]
[Agent: mn01xg2rigx00001 (Running) Total HR: [0.00Kh/s] Miners running [0] GPUs [none active]]
    [06:13 PM][Uptime: 0d 0:04][root@pimp2(192.168.48.84)]

    Anything jump out at you?

    Thanks again!

    -Dave

@dave_north you must type your Miner ID after pimp --debug. (Available miner IDs: ID 2 localhost:4029 ethdcrminer64 claymore.dual.pcfg Usage: pimp --debug [Miner ID]). The full command in your case is pimp --debug 2. Looks like your PSU is weak for 8 cards. What model of PSU do you use? Do you use bios mod for cards?
Update your motherboard BIOS on the latest version and once again carefully check all its settings.
