Nvidia Profile Mining Tutorial 1 - Snowgem (XSG) using Bminer (bminer.equihash.pcfg)

  • Support

    Hello Pimp's,

I've been asked to create some working profile examples on how to edit a config file, and get it working with the miner, and the mining pool, using miner.farm and the mining pool to confirm connection successful and the miners hashrates.

So, I'm going to go through the steps for mining the Snowgem (XSG) coin, using mining pool "pool.sexy" for my tutorial guide, but you can use other mining pools just the same, i.e. "miningspeed".

I will go through the steps using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol), and then for SSH (Secure Shell) - Hear goes:-

    RDP Steps:

Step 1 - Login via RDP, and open "/root" folder

Using your RDP app (I'm using Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac app, or in Windows 10 you can use Remote Desktop Connection app), login to your rig, which will load the PiMP desktop.

    0_1529778245723_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.22.36.png

Once you have successfully logged in and the PiMP desktop has loaded, at the bottom left hand side of the PiMP desktop screen, you'll see the start icon, and to the right of it a filing cabinet icon called "File Manager" (if you put your mouse over the filing cabinet icon to reveal it's name "File Manager").

    0_1529778325095_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.22.21.png

Double click the filing cabinet icon called "File Manager", and it will load the following "/root" folder window.

    0_1529778463015_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.27.23.png

    Step 2 - Open "bminer.equihash.pcfg" file

With the "/root" folder window open (see above image), highlight "/root",

    0_1529779352880_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.30.13.png

delete "/root", and in it's place enter "/opt/confs",

    0_1529779453249_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.43.51.png

and press "enter" on your keyboard, to show "/confs" folder window as per image below.

    0_1529779526258_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.45.12.png

From the list of files in the "/confs" folder window, double click "bminer.equihash.pcfg" file,

    0_1529779780826_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 19.48.49.png

to open the config file window up.

    0_1529794067770_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.47.01.png

    Step 3 - Edit "bminer.equihash.pcfg" config file

To recap hear, for this tutorial guide I will show you the setup for mining the Snowgem (XSG) coin, using Bminer as the miner (which through the course of this tutorial guide I will call it "Bminer" miner), and "pool.sexy" for the mining pool.

For the pool.sexy pool, please use the SSL conection url, as the tcp connection url I couldn't get to work with Bminer miner:

    0_1529786489452_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 21.41.05.png

For SSL, the config file should look like this, making sure to change the current Snowgem wallet address to your own Snowgem wallet address.

    0_1529794165164_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.49.11.png

Note - Close up screenshot of the "USER1=" line you need to modify

    0_1529793780574_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.42.27.png

Also, after the wallet address ".GTW", this is the worker name or rig name of my rig, which you can change to whatever you want, making sure to keep the ":x" (which is the password for the mining pool) which comes after the ".GTW" (see above screenshot), just in case pool.sexy needs it for the miner to connect properly.

Note - Make sure "ALGO1=Equihash" is set to "Equihash".

    0_1529787521355_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 21.58.30.png

Ok, that's the hard work done, now all you need to do is go to "File", and click "save",

    0_1529788205807_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.09.08.png

then close the "bminer.equihash.pcfg config file, by going to "File", and click "quit".

    0_1529788264931_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.10.50.png

If any window(s) are open close them now, so that you end up back on the PiMP desktop.

    0_1529788990277_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.22.58.png

Step 4 - Add "Bminer" miner to the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window

Ok, so all that's left to do is add "Bminer" miner to the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window and then test the miner out :)

So let's go ahead and launch the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, by double clicking it's icon on the PiMP desktop.

    0_1529789062356_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.23.24.png

and it should open the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window :)

    0_1529789284153_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.25.24.png

To add Bminer miner, using "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, on your keyboard press the "a" key, which should bring up a list of available miners.

    0_1529789472587_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.30.59.png

Use the "tab" key on your keyboard to move to the "profile" section,

    0_1529789532960_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.31.59.png

and use your keyboards "down arrow" to highlight " (nvid) bminer (v8.0.0): zcash/equihash", and press the "enter" key on you keyboard to select this miner.

    0_1529789586753_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.32.51.png

Once miner selected, use the "tab" key on your keyboard to highlight the
    "[ Save ]" button,

    0_1529789842203_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.37.09.png

and then press the "enter" key on your keyboard, you should then receive the following message.

    0_1529789820945_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.36.32.png

Press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< OK >" to the message.
Then again use the "tab" key on your keyboard to highlight the "[ Exit ]" button,

    0_1529789959864_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.39.06.png

and then press the "enter" key on your keyboard, so you go back to the main "Minerfarm Agent Console" window.

Note - A new miner has been added "ID 1 localhost: 4028 bminer.equihash.pcfg".

    0_1529790043207_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.40.32.png

Step 5 - Start the miner, and test the connection

Here there are two ways to start and test the miner and it's connection,

    a) Using the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, or
    b) Using the "PiMP Terminal" window

To test the miner out, we will start with option a) as above, i.e. using the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window.

With the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window open, press the "s" key on your keyboard, and the following message will appear.

    0_1529790136720_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.42.06.png

Press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< Yes >" to the message and start the miner. You will then get the following message.

    0_1529790191824_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.42.51.png

Again, press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< OK >" to the message and, it will go back to the following screen.

    0_1529790280726_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.40.32.png

If all goes to plan after a couple of minutes you should see the screen update itself to the following - though please note this is my rig, so your states maybe different.

    0_1529790367201_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.44.12.png

    b) Using the "PiMP Terminal" window

To start the miner using the "PiMP Terminal" window, first stop the miner on the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, by pressing the "s" key on your keyboard", and the following message will appear.

    0_1529790559532_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.46.44.png

Press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< Yes >" and confirm you wish to stop the miner.

When the following message appears "Miner stopped", press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< OK >".

    0_1529790611395_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.47.05.png

You will then go back to the main "Minerfarm Agent Console" window.

    0_1529790690890_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.51.19.png

Once on the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, press the "q" key to close the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window. When the below message "Do you want to quit?" appears press the "enter" key on your keyboard to say "< Yes >" to quit and close the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window.

    0_1529790758355_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.52.29.png

Now that the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window has been closed, lets open the "PiMP Terminal" window by "double clicking" it's icon on the PiMP desktop.

    0_1529790898697_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.54.47.png

The following "PiMP Terminal" window will load.

    0_1529791119876_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.55.28.png

Once loaded, enter the following command "pimp --test 1" into the "PiMP Terminal" window,

    0_1529791137046_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 22.57.18.png

it will then start the Bminer miner.

    0_1529791319034_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.00.30.png

If all goes to plan after a couple of minutes you should see the following "screen output" - though please note this is my rig, so your output / states maybe different.

    0_1529791392003_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.01.05.png

Step 5 - Confirm connection with miner.farm and the pool.sexy mining pool

To confirm that the miner is working as intended via your miner.farm account, login to your miner.farm account: https://miner.farm/ - and hopefully you'll see something similar to my GTW rig output on miner.farm below :)

    0_1529796789396_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.30.45.png

To confirm that the miner is working as intended via pool.sexy mining pool, copy and paste your "Snowgem" wallet address, and click "Lookup"

    0_1529862932560_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 18.53.55.png

to view your rig(s) statistics on the mining pool.

    0_1529792087171_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.14.31.png

    Now for the SSH guide.

    SSH Steps:

Step 1 - Login via SSH

Using your SSH app (I'm using Terminal for Mac app, or you can use MobaXterm app for for Windows, or the PuTTY app), login to your rig.

    0_1529792998796_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.29.03.png

    Step 2 - Open "bminer.equihash.pcfg" file

Enter the following command "pimp --edit bminer.equihash.pcfg" then press the "enter" key on your keyboard to run the command, and then you should receive the following message "Edit this file? Y/n".

    0_1529793132022_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.31.30.png

Press the "y" key on your keyboard.

    0_1529793210074_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.33.15.png

Press the "enter" key on your keyboard", and "bminer.equihash.pcfg" will display.

    0_1529793321756_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.35.12.png

    Step 3 - Edit "bminer.equihash.pcfg" config file

Using the "pool.sexy" mining pool for the Snowgem (XSG) coin, and the SSL connection url, as the tcp connection url, didn't work,

    0_1529794412195_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.53.20.png

edit the "bminer.equihash.pcfg" file as per image below, changing the Snowgem wallet address, to your own Snowgem wallet address, and workername, from ".GTW" to your own workername, making sure to keep the ":x" (which is the password for the mining pool) which comes after the ".GTW" (see below screenshot), in order to connect to the mining pool.

    0_1529794548379_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.55.38.png

That's it, to save the changes, on a Mac press and hold down "ctrl" key and at the same time press the "x" key on your keyboard, to bring up the following message.

    0_1529794694024_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.58.03.png

Press the "y" key on your keyboard to bring up the following message.

    0_1529794775270_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.59.04.png

Then press the "enter" key on your keyboard, which should bring you back to the following screen.

    0_1529794921787_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.01.47.png

Step 4 - Add "Bminer" miner

Two ways to add "Bminer" miner, either through using,

    a) Using "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, which I've already detailed the steps above, please see "RDP Steps:" - "Step 4 - Add "Bminer" miner to the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window and test the connection"

Please note, in order to load the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window in your SSH terminal window, please run the following command "minerfarm", to launch the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, and then following the guide.

    , or

    b) Using "SSH Terminal" window (which ever SSH app you are using), using Command "pimp --add", which I will describe below.

Enter the following command "pimp --add 2511", and press the "enter" key on your keyboard, this will add the "Bminer" miner,

    0_1529795392560_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.08.51.png

as confirmed in the below image.

    0_1529795458988_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.09.15.png

Now comes again the best part, testing to make sure the miner works - again two ways to do this,

    a) Using "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, which I've already detailed the steps above, please see "RDP Steps:" - "Step 4 - Add "Bminer" miner to the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window and test the connection"

Please note, in order to load the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window in your SSH terminal window (which ever SSH app you are using), please run the following command "minerfarm", to launch the "Minerfarm Agent Console" window, and then following the guide.

    , or

    b) Using "SSH Terminal" (which ever SSH app you are using), Command "pimp --test 1", which I will describe below.

Enter the following command "pimp --test 1", and press the "enter key on your keyboard, this will start the miner.

    0_1529795692170_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.14.18.png

If all goes to plan after a couple of minutes you should see this "screen output" - though please note this is my rig, so your output / states maybe different.

    0_1529795880879_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.15.49.png

Step 6 - Confirm connection with miner.farm and the pool.sexy mining pool

To confirm that the miner is working as intended, login to your miner.farm account: https://miner.farm/ - and hopefully you'll see something similar to my GTW rig output on miner.farm below :)

    0_1529796863373_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 00.30.45.png

To confirm that the miner is working as intended via pool.sexy mining pool, copy and paste your "Snowgem" wallet address, and click "Lookup"

    0_1529864124954_Screen Shot 2018-06-24 at 18.53.55.png

to view your rig(s) statistics on the mining pool.

    0_1529792087171_Screen Shot 2018-06-23 at 23.14.31.png
