Miner keeps stopping

  • Hi pimpers,

My miner keeps stopping, any ideas what could be stopping it?

You enabled full remote management, but did not specify -mpsw option to protect it by password, please do it, otherwise you can be attacked if you share remote management port to internet! Or use negative -mport value to enable read-only remote management mode, see Readme for details.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's because you are trying to mine ETH with GPU's that have less than 3GB of VRAM... ETH DAG size is over 2GB now. GPU's under 3GB VRAM are considered 'Dead' to ETH mining.

  • They are Sapphire RX480 4GB cards, It has been mining fine for months but recently it keeps stopping

  • Support

Let me take another look at the helpme.

  • Support

All of the GPU's are reported correctly to the system, but seem to be reported within Claymore as only having 1312 MB available...
GPU #0: Ellesmere (AMD Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics), 1312 MB available, 36 compute units (pci bus 1:0:0) GPU #0 recognized as Radeon RX 480/580

The only thing that stands out to me in the helpme is this:

    pci_map_rom+0x58/0xf0 mapping multiple BARs

  • Support

From what I can quickly find online, those Claymore DAG errors are what happens when you try to use 2GB GPU's. The fact that the OS correctly identifies the GPU's (4GB), but Claymore isn't (1.3GB) is puzzling.

Did you do a pimpup or apt-get upgrade recently, or did this just start out of the blue?

  • Support

Have you tried a different miner? Give ethminer a try and see if errors are thrown. If ethminer is good, we'll know the issue lies with the claymore miner.
