pimpup hangs on update-pciids ? Known issues with workaround.
The Linux tool update_pciids depends on a sourceforge.com file share that is currently offline. This causes the utility to hang as it tries to update. The tool has no updates at this time to get around this issue. As it is part of the Linux distribution, there is little we can do about it.
We are actively working on a solution to stop it from blocking anyone. But if you get caught by pimpup getting locked up while waiting for a response for PCI IDs, you can get around it by simply killing the process that is blocked, and pimpup will continue on.
Open a new ssh session, and use the 'ps' command to list running processes. Search the output using 'grep' for the 'update-pciids' command, and then kill the stuck process. When you return to the hung pimpup session, it will have moved along to the next step.
Here is an example:
[/root]:# ps -ef | grep update root 2394 2304 0 18:13 pts/3 00:00:00 sh -c /usr/sbin/update-pciids >> /dev/null 2>&1 root 2395 2394 0 18:13 pts/3 00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/sbin/update-pciids root 2589 2393 0 18:13 pts/3 00:00:00 /usr/bin/curl -s -f -S -z /opt/confs/default/ccminer.skunk.pcfg -o /tmp/ccminer.skunk.pcfg https://update.getpimp.org/pimpup/defconfs//ccminer.skunk.pcfg root 2595 2481 0 18:13 pts/4 00:00:00 grep update [Agent: O05466 (Running) Total HR: [0.00Kh/s] Miners running GPUs [none active]] [06:13 PM][Uptime: 3d 21:53][root@pimp2(192.168.1.189)] [/root]:# kill 2395
Here we did issued the 'ps -ef' and piped it to 'grep update', then we visually found the process starting with '/bin/sh /usr/sbin/update-pciids'. It has the process id (PID) of 2395. We then kill this PID using 'kill 2395'.
Be sure you find the right numbers for your rig! The PID is always different!
This work around will get you past things, and you can expect a fix to the problem delivered by pimpup ASAP.
Good luck and happy mining!
