GPU's change position every time I reboot??

  • I have 5 GPU's in my rig. Every time I reboot they change position. I use the 'gputool --list' I get this:

    GPUs reported by NVidia driver:
    GPU 0: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-d9977d72-f739-9471-77b1-3a4c8faae5d5)
    GPU 1: GeForce GTX 1080 (UUID: GPU-3a73da0e-ee28-fe98-d3f0-29aa4642fc0c)
    GPU 2: GeForce GTX 1080 (UUID: GPU-f03357ca-410b-53f7-d741-58a8adbed025)
    GPU 3: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-19261a37-8689-93ff-740e-d9501ad310d8)
    GPU 4: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-d3d0b693-2f0b-0f6c-2832-ef3e3e82e4fb)

But I reboot and I get this:

    GPUs reported by NVidia driver:
    GPU 0: GeForce GTX 1080 (UUID: GPU-3a73da0e-ee28-fe98-d3f0-29aa4642fc0c)
    GPU 1: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-d9977d72-f739-9471-77b1-3a4c8faae5d5)
    GPU 2: GeForce GTX 1080 (UUID: GPU-f03357ca-410b-53f7-d741-58a8adbed025)
    GPU 3: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-d3d0b693-2f0b-0f6c-2832-ef3e3e82e4fb)
    GPU 4: GeForce GTX 1070 (UUID: GPU-19261a37-8689-93ff-740e-d9501ad310d8)

Thats just an example of one reboot. Each time they are in a different order. This sucks because the settings in my gpu-config.json file have specific overclock settings for certain cards. And each time the rig is rebooted its using the wrong overclock settings and hurts my hashrates.

Any ideas??? This is very frustrating. :(

What motherboard are you using? Would you have a URL for the output of 'helpme'?

  • The motherboard is the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3

    https://helpme.getpimp.org/Farmer4826-1518833133.html

I changed my overclock settings for now to match my lowest overclock. Hopefully I can figure this out so I can set custom clocks for each gpu.

    GPUS are:

    1x EVGA 1070 FTW
    2x Gigabyte 1070 G1 Gaming
    2x EVGA 1080 SC

My guess would be to check the BIOS settings on the motherboard for IOMMU related options. How do the GPUs map out in hardware? Using 'lspic -vt' will provide a nice hardware tree view of the pci slots. May be of value.

  • I got it figured out finally. In the BIOS there is an option to enable IOMMU, which I know that I did at one point because I followed a guide to get that specific mobo setup for mining. I must have reset BIOS at some point and it defaulted to disabling IOMMU. So enabling IOMMU did the trick. I've rebooted PIMP several times checking the GPU order and It now stays in the same order every time. Thanks Anjin!

The IOMMU settings allow the bios to remap the bus as needed for virtual machine support. Not required here. Great job fixing it up!
